Boreas Seabed and Tyria
Might contain Spoilers.
Hi there.
I was doing the Factions quest/mission again with another character, and I found some links with Tyria and Cantha... And I can't put my finger on it. Also, I could not find a decent explanation.
First I'll give a summary of what is.
1. The Convocation, quest = going to Boreas Seabed.
During the cutscene you see after arriving in Boreas Seabed, at one point you see Wolfs running around.
Next.
2. Boreas Seabed, the mission.
A Ranger boss, Aurora, appears. From what I could find, she appears to be Luxon.
A few quotes.
From Wiki:
Quote:
"I fight for the Serpent and will honor the Luxon Armada with your defeat. But I suppose you'll find out in the arena, won't you? Between us, Argo is mighty, but I know I can beat him."
"For the honor of Serpent!"
"You may have been victorious in the Convocation, (character name), but that does not make you a Luxon. I suppose I should keep an eye on you, though~ just to make sure you don't do anything foolish.
|
This stated.
Now I have a few questions.
1. How do the wolfs get there?
I haven't seen one in Cantha. The fact that the is/was some sort of trade route between Tyria and Cantha doesn't satisfy me to the question, since even Master Togo did not know about The Convocation (see here), so how would Tyrians know and bring their Wolfs in?
And more importantly:
2. Who is Aurora?
Obviously a very important person, getting an outpost named afer her in Tyria. But since she seems Luxon, according to her quotes, the connection fails with me. She could have been a(n important!) Shining Blade, abandoning and forgetting all after moving to Cantha, or something, going all Luxon.
Well that's it.
Maybe I missed something... I hope you can help answering this.

No RPG on the market has a flawless storyline. Storylines can have continuity errors. That seems to be the case here.

Just because there is an Aurora Glade in Tyria doesn't mean it's named after the Aurora in Boreas Seabed. Heck, my ranger is named Aurora so maybe it's named after me! =)
No idea on the wolves... maybe they bought some off of the tamer after an influx of Tyrian rangers abandoned their pets to get newer breeds.

Even though Tyrians might know about it (maybe talking to Jiui Tai or whatever her name is in LA and hearing about it) it doesn't make sense for them to come to Boreas to fight the others and then fight the Kraken. What do they get from it? The Spear of Archemorus? WE need it, they don't. The only Tyrians fighting there are, well, some of us. So my best guess would be that it's meant as a "tribute" to all those Tyrians who came to Cantha to help battle Shiro/Plague. Maybe the movie would best be viewed from a Canthan character point of view where Tyrians are the "others". There might be some rangers in that mission, from Tyria, with their pet wolves. That's the best I can do about this.

I think Aurora Glade is named after the area, and not after a specific person. Wouldn't it have been Aurora's Glade if it was named after a person? If I am mistaken (English is not my primary language) there might be another explanation. It would have been cool if she turned out to be a Shining Blade moving to Cantha and forget about the White Mantle and such. Since, in theory, the things happening in Cantha are going on at the same time as the business in Kryta/Maguuma. Right? Or am I making a big fool out of myself.
I do think the second part is just a coincidence with Aurora and Aurora Glade. I'm still sad they didn't give her a pet though (hence the quotes about Hector found on the wiki page you posted). I would have loved a henchie with a pet, she wouldn't have been out of my party for any mission
Btw, you've taken Elenya to Boreas already (or maybe even beyond!). I need to get cracking with the packing and hurry up....

If you've done the first mission, Minister Cho's Estate, you'll recall that he kept a zoo of animals from far off lands, mostly tyria. They are all plague animals when you go in there but, there are wolves if i recall correctly.
Also, the tamer outside ascalon city says he has a canthan master, for whom he purchases animals from people who have pets.
Also there were plenty of luxons who attempted to settle in tyria, in the run up in game publicity in and around lions arch, who says some couldn't take a quick trip to the shiverpeaks for a wolf.

Thanks all.
Yes, it seems this will hang on to loose ends.
About Aurora.
Yeah, it could be Aurora's parents thought of it as a nice name, familiar with the area, and named their daughter just that. Like Paris, or Sydney (or Alesia ). Since I do not know why Aurora Glade is called like it is, wild speculation!
About the wolfs.
Thanks, bigwig. I forgot about that. It is indeed certain Canthan know about wolfs and other Tyrian animals.
But then, I think wolfs are extremely expensive to get as a pet in Cantha. So are they pets of rich Canthan warriors, or are they the pets of the Tyrians helping in the mission?
Well, I guess this will always be speculation. But if you find something (or other ideas), let know!

To me, the wolves in the cutscene seems like a mistake. The group has crabs as pets inside the mission.
Wouldn't be the first time in Factions where incorrect model was used in cutscene.

Aurora Glade is easy enough to pick apart and figure out why it's called that. Aurora means "dawn" or morning, effecitvely.. and Glade means a forest outcropping. So, Aurora Glade means "Morning Forest". Probably called such as maybe it looks really pretty when the sun rises and shines through the trees.
Thus, Aurora was given that name because she reminded her parents of a pretty sunrise. Un-related, but similar meaning. No continuity problems here.

I'd say that wolves would be a prized, rare animal in Cantha, yes. Which is exactly why someone would want it as a pet over say, a crab or crane. It stands out and looks unique (to the area). Why do you think people want the Phoenix, UW Spider, Black Moa, etc. for pets over the others?

Though of all things, this seems the most likely. They do use crabs in the mission itself, so it's probably just a goof.

I'm not so sure it is 'certain' that Canthans know about wolves and other Tyrian animals. Remember in the first mission? Yuji (or whatever the hell his name is...) exclaims "What is that? Some feathered demon?" when you come upon the Minister's menagerie. Chances are the wolf is just thrown in there for the hell of it, but dismissing it saying that all Canthans would know about Tyrian animals is erroneous.
